If I could overcome financial crisis, so can you.
It was Friday, December 10, 1993. I had just arrived at work and was preparing for my shift, when I heard my name announced over the intercom system. Within 30 minutes, I was being escorted out through the security gate to my car by my supervisor. The lay-offs, which had been happening for several months, had finally reached me, and my life was all of a sudden very different.
There’s no good time to lose your job. But for me, my wife Natalie, and our 9-month-old daughter, this could not have come at a worse time. We had just purchased our first home, filled it with furniture, and had settled into a normal, middle income lifestyle. Natalie had quit her job to stay home and raise our first daughter, Rachel. We had no real savings to rely on, so things got tough really fast. Life happens! Layoffs are not uncommon. But for me to be in this situation, financially unprepared, well … I should have never been in this situation.
I didn’t know how to manage money. It wasn’t something taught in school. Like everyone else, Natalie and I just made money and spent it as best we could. After 4 years of marriage we had managed to add 13 credit cards, a mortgage, and a car payment to our money management strategy. Up to this point paying for it all was doable. But now…
Our story is not unique, though I wish it was.
Over the past 16 years working as a financial coach, I’ve sat across from thousands of people in classrooms, seminars, and personal coaching sessions. Our financial difficulty, although I can still feel the pain and burden of that difficult season, pales in comparison to some of the heartbreaking situations I’ve witnessed in the people I’ve worked with.
What's tragic is that financial stress is fairly common, but it shouldn't be.
That’s why I decided to start this site. I have one goal: I want to help you! If you’re dealing with financial stress, you’re under the burden and bondage of debt, and desperate for hope, I can help. I want to help you experience the life you set out to live, without the recurring nightmare of financial stress. There’s a way to freedom. For the past 24 years I’ve learned everything I could about personal finance. I’ve personally applied this knowledge to my own finances and it worked! And I’ve taught many people how to do the same.
Through this site I will share the ‘why’ and the ‘how’ of money.
The ‘how’ is the practical ways of manage money, the tools, which I’ll share with you in ways that you’ll easily understand and be able to apply. The ‘why’ will help you understand the beliefs, attitudes, and emotions involved in managing money. Knowing the ‘why’ will help you apply the ‘how’ consistently so you can experience progress and success. You need both, and I'm excited to share them with you!
